As moms, we know that our gut instincts are usually right. Now, how do we take care of this precious part of our body?
More and more research is being done on the concept of the microbiome - the collection of microbes that live in our body. Essentially, we are more bacteria than we are human! Crazy right?! Every persons gut bacteria is as unique as they are. Genetics play a part in its makeup, but so do lifestyle factors such as diet and antibiotic use. When we eat foods rich in probiotics, we help to nourish the good bacteria in our bellies and promote good gut health. This contributes to our immunity, mood, as well as our heart and brain health.
Okay now - what are the best food sources of probiotics? Below is a list of my favorites:
- Kombucha (fermented tea)
- Yogurt (look for whole milk, organic, and grass fed)
